Office Christmas Lunch and the “Wine Drama”

Today was our office’s Christmas lunch. It was my first ever Christmas party so I was quite excited!

The company I work for only has 4 employees (including me) plus the owner so it would be a small group lunch at Gotham’s Steakhouse. We were excited all morning and we got ready to leave at 11:45am to walk to the restaurant for our noon reservation. Except the owner wasn’t ready so three of us went ahead to secure the table.

We got there and proceed to browse through the menus. I was appointed the one in charge of ordering the wine which was great as I love looking through the wine list and finding the perfect wine(s) for the meal. I settled on the Qupe Syrah as we were all having steak. Since we were still waiting for the rest of the group, we decided to order the wine first. She brought out the wine and offered me the taste. I tasted it and I had to taste it again as it didn’t taste right. There wasn’t much flavours and it tasted a little sour. It didn’t taste obviously corked or bad just tasted a little sour and flat so I asked the server if the wine was supposed to be like that. She offered to have the bartender try it and I said yes, I wanted a second opinion.

The bartender tasted it and he took a while but eventually said it was fine. By this time, a manager had shown up at the bar and he tasted it too. He immediately pushed the bottle away and the server came back and told us that he was a wine expert and he agreed that the wine didn’t have the right finish. I was glad that I wasn’t wrong about the wine! Everyone was impressed and we choose the wine that the manager suggested, Fess Parker The Big Easy Syrah. It was a great choice! Lots of flavours, delicious, easy to drink.

It was the first time I had to send a wine back and I was glad that I asked for a second opinion because the Big Easy tasted so much better!

I decided to switch wines when we finished the first bottle and I ordered the Holy Trinity. This was an absolutely delicious wine. Big bold flavours, jammy and just an explosion of tastiness in your mouth! I would definitely drink this again and it is now on my list of top wines. If you get a chance to try this wine, you should!

We had a wonderful lunch, with appetizers, wine, steak sides, desserts and more wine! For appies, we ordered calamari, lobster bisque, crab cake, and beet salad. Everyone got steak as their mains, from New York Strips to Rib Eyes to Filet Mignons. You think we wouldn’t have room for dessert but we did! We ordered chocolate brownie, sticky toffee pudding, chocolate bourbon cake and cheesecake.

All in all, it was awesome to hang out and get to know my co-workers a bit more. Our Christmas party was a 3-hour lunch and it was worth every minute of it. Delicious wine, tasty food and good company. Happy holidays everyone!

Baking

I’ve always wanted to bake and make all the pretty pastries and desserts.

Now that I’ve moved into an actual house with a decent size kitchen, I’m able to start baking!

I will post my attempts and share with you the recipes.

Happy baking!

First Day

First day of work went very well!

Everyone was nice and the work is right up my alley. I’ve already learned some new stuff that will help me and I’m looking forward to learning more!

Here is a photo of one of my new co-workers, her name is Maggie!2013-12-02 14.44.26

Exciting News!

I got a call this morning from a travel agency where I sent an email applying for a 6-month contract as an office admin.

Turns out, the owner knew me from my days working at the Vancouver Club and wanted to meet me for an interview.

I went for coffee with him in the afternoon and he offered me the position!

This is quite exciting as I was looking to expend the travel side of my business so being in a travel agency will allow me to learn and offer more services in the future!

It will be fun to work in an office again after 3 years.

I’ll post updates!

Rebranding

I will be changing how this blog looks and the design, layout and vision will evolve as the days go by.

Do check back often and don’t be surprised if things look different around here!

3 years later…

3 years after I moved my blog over to WordPress, I found it again!

It has now been over 5 years since my year-long travels and yet, I think about that wondrous year almost every single day.

A lot has changed but my passion for travel hasn’t.

I have decided to revive this blog and start writing again.

This should be fun! =)

Hello world!

My blog from my year-long travels in 2007-2008 has been transported from MSN Live Space to Word Press!

This is a fresh begining for me as I start my own consulting business.

This blog will contact posts from my trip, tips, stories and photos as part of the travel side of the consulting business.

Comments are always welcome! 🙂

Conclusion to my trip

If you have been following me on my year-long travels last year, you know that I post an update every three months. Well, I am now back home and the last update, which is the conclusion should be posted, oh three weeks ago. But as per my usual procrastinating self, it is not done yet, although this time I have a valid excuse: jet lag and settling back home.

So I just wanted to say that yes, the last installment of my updates will be posted, I am still working on it. Hopefully it’ll be done within the week…or two. =)

So many things to do, so little time…and money.

It’s 3:30am on Saturday and I’m on Facebook because I can’t sleep. Is it jetlag? Is it delayed reaction to being home after a year of traveling? Who knows? All I know is that the last couple of days, I’ve felt super tired, have no energy yet with spurts of hyperness and excitement thrown in the mix. I have quite a list of things to thing that I’m slowly working on, including my year-end conclusion update which is half written on the plane, I just need to finish the other half!I’ve been back for 4 days already. I can’t believe that it’s already been 4 days. It really is a surreal feeling especially since I felt like I never left, but then something will happen that jolts me back to the reality of being away for a year. There have been times in the last 4 days when I just get overwhelmed with all the stuff that is sitting there waiting, all the mess I’ve made since I’ve got back in my apartment, and the enormity of what I did. Did I really go away for a year? Did I really visit all those countries and saw all those places and things? Did I really spend that much money?

And I wonder why I can’t sleep…

Thought of the day

“If you know that all is well, you know all you need to know. And if you know life is supposed to be fun, you know more than almost anybody else knows. And if you know that the way you feel is your indicator of how connected you are to Source, then you know that which only a handful of Deliberate Creators, respective to the total population, really know. The beasts all know it. Your animals know that all is well. Your animals live in the moment. They understand the power of their now. They expect the Universe to yield to them. They don’t worry or fret or conjure or make laws or rules or try to regulate. They are Pure Positive Energy. Your beasts vibrate more on the Energy scale of contentment than of passion. Their desire was set forth from Nonphysical, and continues to be set forth by those, like you, who want Energy balance, who want sustenance. The difference between the beast and the human is that the beast is more general in its intent. The human is usually less blended, usually less allowing of the Energy to flow, but is more specific. And that is why the human is seen to be the Creator while the beast is more the balancer of Energy.”Abraham Hicks
